The Alaskan militia is quite small, and has only generic bolt action rifles along with some high powered, big game rifles. And they know the terrain very well.
You'll be facing 140 militia men, 15 of them with big game rifles designed to fire very long distances. The first battle will take place on the border in a heavily wooded area with a large hill on the north side of the battlefield. Civilian hunters have reported that you are invading, but not in detail. So while this is a "planned" battle, you still have some amount of surprise.
As the attacker, you may post your battle plans first.

The 300 soldiers will be split into 4 groups, 75 in each. Group A will charge and attract the enemy, while group B hangs back. Groups C and D will form an ambush behind group A. When Group A is being pushed back, they will retreat back to Group B, and the opposing force will be attacked on all sides.

The bulk of the militia takes the bait, but the snipers/hunters took the hill and saw your rear group in wait. While the main force takes heavy losses in the center, the snipers take shots at your rear guard's commanders, causing disruption among your ranks. The loss of command could result in your forces falling apart, taking heavy losses as well while still winning the battle overall. However you have the chance to react to the sniper fire and save many of your men.

The Higher ranked of the remaining troops order a charge to overpower the remaining snipers/hunters, using the semi-automatic feature to suppress them while moving up.

Sounds good, your suppression works and numbers overwhelm the pinned snipers.
Your men walk away with 225 living men, and a new territory to call their own.
As it is now, Alaska will provide $5000 in daily income (Still not started). However after improving it's economy once, the oil fields will be discovered, raising it's income to a lofty $10000. Afterwards normal economy improvements take place.

Oh, one more thing. Since only 225 survived, do I only have 225 rifles left now?

Yea, the price of the rifles include paying the people to fire them. Again, just like an RTS game.

Alright, if it isn't already on it, make sure that's clear on the How Battles Work thread. It could get confusing for non-RTS majors like me.
OT: the remaining soldiers cheer as the last sniper falls, raising the Canadian flag high above the hill. The dead and wounded are carted off, and the men retreat to a nearby town to occupy it and celebrate.
