I thought this would be a good idea. Idk about you guys, but I love to discuss strategy, especially after a game. Me and Malachi were talking about tactics after my invasion of Germany, and the pros and cons of what I did, etc. I was thinking it'd be cool to make a thread for that sort of talk to happen, so it is in one place where we all can talk. Discuss strategies you have used so far in battles, strategies you hope to use (and don't mind revealing to us ) strategies you've seen used effectively in similar games or RTS games, as well as experimental strategies that we can all give input on. Who knows, perhaps we'll come up with some unique strategies that'll shape the course of this game and the course of how we use technology.

Using snipers as bait. Lure an attacking force in to where they are too close for the snipers to fight effectively, then reveal your hidden MG nests covering that area and mow every living thing down. Came up with that idea playing Eve Online

I enjoy taking strategies from formation maneuvers from medieval times. even though some still exist today, they seem mainly outdated, but they can still be effective.
An effective strategy i have learned from playing RUSE, is a simple step-by step process. 1. If you discover enemies on your planned path, use your Artillery first to clear the area, 2. then Move up you infantry and recon to clear any ambushes that might happen in forests and cities. 3. then you move your tanks up to reinforce your infantry.
I am still learning certain terms such as "Vanguard" "Rear Guard" etc. but Strategy really interests me.

Nice, very nice. Eve has ground combat? I thought it was all space n' stuff. One I saw my brother use a lot in Total War is he would make a big of batteries. The two closest would have a lot of troops around them, and there would be a lot of infantry spread out along the line protecting it. However at the bottom of the cone there would be a hole, with two unprotected cannon crews. The batteries at the tips would shoot out at the enemy, keep them from flanking outside the cone, while cavalry would intercept any that escaped the cannon fire. But for the most part the enemy AI would rush the un protected cannons, in the process putting themselves inside the code. The batteries on both sides would fire beehive rounds inward, and the two cannons would fire regular rounds up the field. It became a killing field. Sadly, not totally possible in this game

No eve is all space for now, but they plan on tieing the servers in to their offshoot FPS when it comes out. Basically the FPS players will be doing contracts for the Spacers on planets and starbases. Spacers have a lot of money invested in mines and factories planet side. And yea, I've always been fascinated with artillery. I mean, just putting 2 howitzers on the field almost wiped out a superior army because they were regarded as so much of a threat that the real threats were ignored.

That sounds awesome I'd totally play an FPS like that. Mhm. They're interesting? But any gun THAT big is kinda scary.

Sounds like Syndicate-style corporate competition And for my attack on Alaska, I used a simple pincer style attack, and just charged the snipers who survived it. Seemed to work out well enough Now that I've got a bit more variation in my units, I'll come up with more complicated ones.

OH HEY, back to the EVE snipers. There are ships specially designed to give range bonuses, so you mount the giant long range guns on those and sit 100-250km away and just pelt things. The problem is if anything gets too close (Usually within 75km) you can't hit them because the guns track too slowly. So your enemy would have a fast frigate dodge fire and get close to you, then the entire enemy fleet will warp ontop of you and tear you a new hole. (The warping bit only works if they're at least 150km away from you. That's the "warp to" limit. Just a game mechanic)

I personally think that trying to collide a UAV with a fighter (especially a jet, which our time period suggests) has a success rate approaching impossibility, especially with a UAV. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerial_ramming

Yea, and even if a UAV managed to hit a jet like that, for it to be small enough to fly through windows, it wouldn't even scratch the jet. Unless it took out the windshield, then it'd be about as bad as hitting a bird.
